 This footpath* runs alongside the River Calder on the southbank. Calder Island is on the northbank. The lake to the right is a disused quarry to the north of Pugneys Country Park. In former times, there was was an osier bed in this area. An osier bed is a place where willows are grown for basket making.
The motte of Sandal Castle is in the distance.

 Time to relax and enjoy the panoramic view of Pugneys Country Park and beyond. The M1 is not far away but, thankfully, not close enough to interfere with the peace of the moment.

 The northern end of Pugneys Country Park by the River Calder. The lake amongst the tree is an old gravel pit; it is adjacent to but not part of the country park. The old osier bed was to the left of the river. The bridge carries the A636 Denby Dale Road across the river. A public right of way (Crigglestone No. 1) runs along the bank from the bridge towards Portobello and the castle.
