| In former times, Manor Farm was situated just to the north of Lowtown. The farm had been the home of the Matthewman family of farmers for generations. The old farm house fell into disuse and was demolished in the 1960s and the land was sold to make way for Manor Estate. There are still fields to the east across to Elmwood Estate. There is also a playing field (named after H.M. Queen Elizabeth II). Railway lines run to the west and north. The only vehicular access to the estate is via Manor Road from School Lane in Lowtown. Waterways Land, Manor Estate, Walton, 10 May 2008. Viewed from the allotments track. The Barnsley Canal route
is in front of the houses on the edge of the cultivated field. The rmains of one of the canal locks
is visible. |

The lock keeper's cottage, although in apparent isolation, stands just a few metres from Manor Estate with a conveniently sited potential access road pointing towards the, as yet, undeveloped Waterways Land that lies around the cottage and beyond towards the distant houses of Elmwood Estate. View from Manor Estate towards the east of the village. The social club and Elmwood Estate are across the other side of the farm fields, the allotments are off to the right.
