Comma at Walton Colliery Nature ParkAbout FWCNP
Friends of WCNP is a group of volunteers which was set up in 2010 to help raise funds for the improvement of the park.

Any one can join (there is no fee) and volunteer as much, or as little, of their time as they wish.

We help the Wakefield MDC countryside ranger and are a link between Wakefield Council and the local residents.

We aim to gather funding for physical improvements, see joint projects through to completion and give opinions on proposed plans for the park.

  • Our overall aim is not to radically change the park but to protect the natural beauty and help improve the existing facilities.

For example:
Purchasing and installing benches
Carry out environmental clean-ups
Organise community events or group walks
Improve the biodiversity and wildlife areas in the park.

NEWS UPDATE

FWCNP has been successful in getting a community chest grant of £1000 for signage. (From the Secretary FWCNP 08/07/2011.)

We have eventually succeeded in getting £10,000 funding from the National Lottery to upgrade the footpath around the periphery of the park.
If you are in the Shay Lane car park, it's the path to the right and will meet up with the cycle pathway but will not be as wide as that is.
(From the Secretary FWCNP.)
